My littlest, tiniest friend isn’t so little or so tiny anymore. She’s wearing shoes.

Shoes.

That’s some big kid stuff. And really, this is the first occasion she’s needed them. Else we’ve got by with socks and a couple pairs of fantastic booties from Zutano. (Seriously fantastic. They actually help keep baby socks on. No small feat. Ba-dump-bump.)

Shoes plus she’s big time working on talking. She’s said some Mama’s and Dada’s here and there. I can never quite tell if it’s truly with intention. But this past week she’s really trying to say “Uh-oh” and “Bubbs” (one of our cat’s names).

Shoes, “talking”, and, as I’ve mentioned before, I’m in the throes of planning her first birthday party.

Yikes. I would prefer to celebrate in a small fashion but as it turns out there’s a lot of expectations surrounding a kids first birthday.

That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. This will only be required for the first birthday. After one we can go about our small celebrations way. Based on this first year, we’ll have to have a vacuum of birthday celebrations for the next few. I’ll have to find a way to separate prepared cakes back into their base ingredients and purchase gifts to give to department stores.

It was easier when she didn’t wear shoes.
