Philly may have that East Coast cool but Indy is doing alright. They’ve put in bike lanes everywhere. Which is a surprise move. Given that you can’t buy booze on Sundays here and organic groceries are harder to come by than bike lanes booze on Sundays.
Kids can’t eat in what are effectively gastropubs. Something about the bar being visible. I’m not even going to try to understand that logic.
But the race is going on right now. While I always abhorred it. These days it takes on some kind of nostalgic, kitschy favorable feeling from me. And the Pacers are winning. Which I couldn’t care less about but it’s good for the city. Plus, even in my total ignorance of NBA last I knew the Pacers were thugs. Apparently they too have spruced up their image.
There’s a handful of new restaurants. One of which was up for a James Beard. (Or the James Beard. IDK.)
So, Indy may not be NYC or Philly. Indy may never be East Coast cool. But you know what it is. It’s better than when we left it and jesus christ is it clean.
