World class train traveler. World class kid.
Totally unrelated to the picture above, I heard Peggy Noonan speaking recently about Presidents taking on the role of President. She had this line about how some just seem to breathe it in, right their shoulders and exude the office.
Like everything in my life, I related this to parenthood. I thought how for some 9-months I was a mother by pregnancy. Because I was pregnant, I was by definition a mother - you know? Then she was ousted from my body and without any gap I was a mother. It’s like the weight of the soul. Nothing overtly transpires but there is a giant shift.
Someone should document the seconds following birth. It would be like time lapse minus the lapse. Study women becoming mothers. Fathers becoming fathers. The shift.
For me, I breathed it in.
I’m either a natural or should probably be President.
(In all fairness, Job breathed it in too. Parenthood that is. He’s definitely a natural and sometimes I think he should be President. Mostly because I’d make a snappy FLOTUS (aka true seat of power) and I already have bangs.)
