Homegirl is killing it lately. It feels as if daily she’s doing something new and (almost always) awesome.

As demonstrated in the picture above, some of the things make her obviously outwardly proud of herself. This was the first time she sat somewhere her sized. Somewhere that allowed her feet to touch the ground while sitting. She was pretty pleased with herself. She even laid her head back on the ottoman and watched some Sesame Street.

(Yes, she watches TV. Rapt with attention she watches TV. Today we enjoyed the latest episode of Modern Family together whilst sharing a snack.)

Here’s the deal though. She does lots of stuff. And for those that want to ascribe some assignation of smartness or future success to when your kid does X. Eff off.

You wanna know what you can say for certain about a kid who walks early. They fall early. I’d gladly take a few more months of crawling over bloody lips from falls.

There are a (giant) handful of things that really get under my skin as it relates to children and child rearing. I only know my kid but I do know that I learned early on to ignore milestone charts, milestone calendars and those who want to make something of when your kid does stuff.

In the absence of any real defecit, you’re only left with imagined ones. I don’t need that kind of worry. And I don’t need the kid competition so many parents seem caught up in.

Now, I will sit down on my soapbox, rest my head on the ottoman and watch some TV with my kid who on every chart of my making ranks as rad.
